Ten-Drum Sugar Refinery Cultural & Creative Park 

 

 

Ten Drum Ciaotou creative Park is established as a brand-new tourism site by Ten Drum Art Percussion Group. It locates in Kaohsiung Ciaotou District, within Kaohsiung Sugar Refinery, and is a home to breed culture and art, also a place for relaxing, sightseeing, field trip, and conference venue. Ten Drum Art Percussion Group rebuilt the abandoned historical sugar refinery to reserve the original appearance of Taiwan Sugar Corporation, inject a new blood of drum music and create the miracle belonging to Taiwan Sugar history and drum music.

Ten Drum Percussion Group

 

Ten Drum Art Percussion Group was set up in 2000. It was selected as one of national cultural cultivation teams and invited to perform in other countries. It has visited New York, Los Angeles in USA, Vancouver, Toronto in Canada, Daejeon, Daegu in South Korea, Pulau Pinang and Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, Bangkok in Thailand, Hong Kong, Singapore, Shanghai, etc. 

Representative performances include performances in 2000 Sydney Olympic Torch Relay, Art Festival for World Cup 2002 in Daejeon, South Korea and other overseas festivals. To date, it has put up more than 600 performances both in and outside Taiwan. Ten Drum's ambition to compete in an international arena is fully manifested in its breaking of Guinness World Records for thousand-people drumming performance in 2004.

In December, 2005, Ten Drum Art Percussion Group settled down in Rende District, Tainan. It wishes to promote drumming art to the world based on the Sugar Refinery aged over 100 years. And the place is named Ten Drum Cultural Village. Ten (pronounced Shi in Chinese phonetics) looks like two drumsticks crossed over in the shape of Chinese character ten and stands for ten directions, which means gathering of power. Spreading and compiling native drum music and taking advantage of international culture is Ten Drum's aspiration, which demonstrates Tainan people's commitment to culture and the miracle that rewrites the art of drumming in Tainan.

In only 7 years, Ten Drum succeeded in making its name in and beyond Taiwan and performed miracle for South Taiwan culture. Its music is rooted in Taiwan native culture, history, scenery. It's unique and well received in and beyond Taiwan. Ten Drum has invited more than 60 international teams to perform in Taiwan (from Europe, Asia and America) and put up more than a hundred performances in the United States (New York, Los Angeles), Austria (Sydney, Brisbane), Canada (Vancouver, Toronto ), South Korea (Daejeon, Daegu), Malaysia ( Kuala Lumpur and Pulau Pinang), Singapore, People’s Republic of China (Shanghai), Thailand (Bangkok).
